Contextual Information Undergraduate

Doane University’s College of Education educator preparation programs share in common a central mission for all candidates expressed in four words: Learn. Challenge. Empower. Transform. The College of Education offers programs at both the initial certification and advanced levels.

Initial Certification at the Undergraduate Program and Initial Program Certification at the Advanced Level Program believe becoming a professional is a developmental process that begins with the first courses and continues through the early years of the teaching career. The program is intentionally designed to scaffold content and experiences to facilitate growth.

Through a series of experiences, pre-service teachers complete hands-on practicum experiences with P-12 students prior to student teaching.  Candidates then complete full-time student teaching in their respective area(s) meeting all Nebraska Department of Education requirements.  Candidates then extend their training into a summer semester of graduate work prior to employment to complete College of Education's certification requirements.

Employers and Completers Survey

Source:  Nebraska Department of Education administered the Nebraska First Year Teacher Survey and Third Year Teacher Survey to both principals and first year teachers, Spring 2024.  Evaluation indicators are based on the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) Model Core Teaching Standards, 2011. Nebraska 1st Year Teacher Employment & Teacher Followup Survey - Statewide Analysis and Nebraska 3rd Year Teacher Employment & Teacher Followup Survey - Statewide Analysis can be viewed at the following link:  https://www.education.ne.gov/educatorprep/about-the-programs/

Employer and Completers - Impact and Effectiveness
(1st & 3rd year survey results for 2023-2024 School Year)

Respondents were asked to rate the extent to which the first year and third year teacher was effectively prepared for their school assignment on various indicators. These indicators were based on the degree to which the teacher meets the expectations:  Consistent, Frequent, Occasional, or Rare.

Both principals and teachers were asked to rate the teacher's impact on student learning, and to provide comments for informing the institution's continuing improvement efforts toward preparing classroom-ready teachers.
