Accreditation and Annual Report

ACCREDITATION
Doane University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Educator Preparation Programs leading to Nebraska Educator Certification are approved by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) and accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

MEMBERSHIPS
Doane University and the Teacher Education Division are members of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE), Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), Nebraska Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (NACTE); Nebraska Council for Teacher Education (NCTE); and Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges of Teacher Education (AILACTE).

OVERVIEW Doane University College of Education

Doane University’s College of Education educator preparation programs share in common a central mission for all candidates expressed in four words: Learn. Challenge. Empower. Transform. The College of Education offers programs at both the initial certification and advanced levels.

Initial Certification at the Undergraduate Program and Initial Program Certification at the Advanced Level Program believe becoming a professional is a developmental process that begins with the first courses and continues through the early years of the teaching career. The program is intentionally designed to scaffold content and experiences to facilitate growth. 

Through a series of experiences, pre-service teachers complete hands-on practicum experiences with P-12 students prior to student teaching.  Candidates then complete full-time student teaching in their respective area(s) meeting all Nebraska Department of Education requirements.  Candidates then extend their training into a summer semester of graduate work prior to employment to complete College of Education's certification requirements. 

The College of Education (COE) pledges to the potential employer the competence of the teacher candidates, including their knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Doane University COE also provides in-service education for our first year teachers if needed, as requested by the employer, in order to lead to the teacher’s demonstration of successful teaching.

Advanced level programs include educator preparation in School Counseling, Educational Leadership (building and district level programs), and supplemental teaching endorsements in areas such as Special Education and Reading Specialist.

Data collected from candidates, supervisors, and cooperating teachers by the College of Education fosters continuous improvement of the program.  Feedback from assessment and evaluation tools is used to help support pre-service teachers’ professional growth as well as provide reflective data for faculty and administrators to consider areas for program refinement.

The following initial certification areas are offered by the College of Education.  Some areas may be paired with course work in another area.  Secondary Education candidates take content courses for major and pedagogy course work.

CAEP Annual Reporting Measures
