Doane Sweethearts 2026

Falling in love. One of Doane’s oldest traditions.

It all began in 1873 with President David Brainerd Perry and Helen Doane, whose love story was preserved in handwritten diaries now held in our archives. From those early pages, one of Doane’s most cherished traditions was born.

Every other year, the Doane Alumni Office celebrates Doane Sweethearts—honoring the connections that begin on campus and endure long after graduation. While many of our featured Sweethearts are romantic life partners who met at Doane, we also welcome stories of lifelong friends whose inseparable bond was formed during their Doane years.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, we will feature Sweetheart stories across Doane Alumni's Facebook and Instagram accounts. Alumni are invited to submit their contact information, Sweetheart story, and high-quality photos for a chance to be featured on February 14.

Submissions are due by Friday, February 6 at noon.

Photos may include images from your time at Doane, engagement or wedding photos, family photos, or other meaningful moments. We highly recommend that each submission include:

  • A photo of the Sweethearts then (during your time at Doane), and
  • A photo of the Sweethearts now (a current couple or family photo)

To submit more than two photos, please email [email protected]. While we value every submission, we cannot guarantee the use of all photos due to image quality, content, and formatting considerations.
