Benjamin C. Struby ’01, J.D. has been promoted to partner at Lathrop GPM in Kansas City, MO. This promotion comes on the heels of Ben being named to “The Best Lawyers in America© list for 2023” last August in the area of Litigation – Real Estate.
Ben is a litigation attorney who focuses his practice on bankruptcy, restructuring, and creditors’ rights. Ben represents clients in the areas of title insurance claims, breach of contract, suits on note, collections, tax sales, lien priority, condemnation/eminent domain, residential and commercial foreclosures evictions, and commercial real estate purchases. He has experience representing creditors in Chapter 7, 11, 12, and 13 Bankruptcy proceedings, as well as assisting clients with sales and rental management of foreclosed properties. In addition, Ben helps clients develop and implement compliance policies and procedures.
Ben has served as a member of the Attorney Advisory Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri. He has court memberships in Missouri, Kansas, and Kentucky—including U.S. District Courts within each state.
During his time at Doane, Ben was involved in Phi Eta Sigma, Cardinal Key, Delta Kappa Pi fraternity, the Tiger Men’s Basketball team, and the Tiger Men’s Soccer team—among other activities and honors. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in English from Doane in 2001, Ben pursued and obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 2004.
Ben’s wife, Annie Jenny Struby ’01 graduated alongside Ben from Doane. During her time on Doane’s campus, Annie was involved in Alpha Lambda Delta, Psych/Soc Club, served as a Doane Ambassador for the Admissions Office, and was a peer advisor. Annie’s brother Brad Jenny ’93 and sister-in-law Jennifer Einspahr Jenny ’99, ’17E are also Doane graduates.
Ben and Annie have two boys, Paul (14) and Thomas (10), and reside in Overland Park, KS. When he is not practicing law, Ben spends his time attending his sons' numerous sporting events, sitting on the Board of the Johnson County Library Foundation, and performing community service through the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s Centurions Program.
