To protect Doane’s brand position and identity, the Office of Strategic Marketing has provided the following resources, standards and guidelines for your reference to maintain a social media account representing Doane University. PRIOR to starting a social media account representing Doane University, approval from the Director of Marketing is required otherwise you are in violation of institutional guidelines.
Social Media Guidelines
While social networks are free to set up, department or organization, the work to use and maintain them is not. PRIOR to starting a social media account representing Doane University, approval from the Director of Marketing is required otherwise you are in violation of institutional guidelines.
Guidelines for establishing and managing university-affiliated social media account:
PRIOR to starting a social media account representing Doane University, approval from the Director of Marketing is required otherwise you are in violation of institutional guidelines.
- We recommend consistency in naming across multiple social media channels. Before starting an account(s), you must, first consult with OSM. The account should include "Doane University", “Doane” or “DoaneU” in the name.
- Example 1: Doane University Perkins Library - @DoanePerkinsLibrary.
- Example 2: Doane University Biology - @DoaneUBiology
- The account(s) profile picture/social avatar should represent the university or the college/department/unit. Individual units or anyone not representing athletics are NOT APPROVED to use the tiger head by itself on any background or in any other format for the purpose of a social media or digital avatar. The OSM team will support you with an approved profile picture/ social avatar.
- The tiger head with an orange background is ONLY reserved for the University’s main account and athletics (@doaneuniversity).
- Academic units and academic units and other non-athletic departments/offices (ex: ResLife, Wellness Center, etc.) should always have “Doane University” within the name on every account.
- Campaign-related and special-use handles may be requested and will be evaluated on their merits.
- Your “About Us” or biography section should outline who the account represents, the purpose for the account and link to a web page on doane.edu. If you don’t have a direct page on doane.edu (not web.doane.edu) then the main Doane website URL doane.edu is to be used.
- The account should also be following @doaneuniverstiy and admin access is then given to OSM.
- If you are not following guidelines, your account will be shut down by OSM.

- The OSM department upholds the Doane Brand and Image; consistent messaging and collaboration is a must. Consider promoting social accounts on print materials.
- You are also required to add Doane’s main account (@doaneuniversity) in addition to yours.
