Moving Beyond Doane University

Healthcare after Doane

Whether you're graduating, transferring, or taking a pause from your studies at Doane University, below are some considerations and actions to help wrap up (or pause) your connection with Student Health and Wellness.

Please note that Student Health does not manage student graduation, withdrawals or readmission, including Medical Leaves of Absence. Review details on graduation and withdrawals on the Registrar website.

How do I find health insurance outside of Doane University?

It is important that you secure your own health insurance coverage once you leave Doane University, as you will no longer have access to the university's student health services. Coverage options include employer-sponsored plans, government programs, purchasing your own individual or family plan, or joining/continuing on a parent's or guardian's plan (if under 26 years old in the US) or spouse's plan. You can also visit https://www.healthcare.gov to explore insurance plan options that fit your needs. While Nebraska doesn't run its own state marketplace, residents have full access to the federal marketplace platform for purchasing health insurance.

What do I do for healthcare after I leave Doane University?

If you are receiving medical, mental health, or other services from Student Health Services, you will need to transition your ongoing care to community-based providers in the area where you'll be living after leaving the university. Student Health and Wellness serves currently enrolled Doane University students only.

Planning Your Transition

During your final academic term, we encourage you to speak with one of our health and wellness staff members about how best to transition your care. This may include scheduling a final assessment, ordering final medication refills, and/or requesting a copy of your medical records for yourself or a new provider.

Coordinating with Off-Campus Providers

If you're already receiving care off-campus, please verify whether your current providers are covered by your health insurance plan. If you're switching to a new insurance plan, confirm that your providers are in-network so you can continue your care without interruption.

Grace Period for Graduates

If you are graduating, you are eligible to use Student Health Services for 30 days post-graduation to help facilitate your transition of care.

How can I access my Doane University health records
