Frequently Asked Questions
Can I take summer school?
Yes! The Crete campus offers on-line summer courses. Summer courses are also available at the Doane University - Lincoln campus. The summer schedule is available on webadvisor.
Can I take summer school at another institution?
Summer courses taken elsewhere need to be approved by the Registrar's Office BEFORE students enroll in those courses. The approval form is available from the Registrar's Office.
How do I log into Self-Service?
Follow the Self-Service link and login using your Doane credentials.
I found a great course but it's full. What can I do?
Add yourself to the course waitlist. If someone drops you will be invited to register for the course.
Undergraduate students are ranked on the waitlist based on a point system. Students who are graduating within the next year receive 5 points, seniors 4 points, juniors 3 points, and sophomores 2 points. The more points you have the higher you are on the waitlist. Therefore the spot you are on the waitlist could occasionally change based on the students (and their points) who get on the waitlist after you.
I will be studying abroad next semester. What do I need to do?
Visit the Registrar's office. They will enroll you in an Off Campus course.
I'll be a junior after I complete this semester. Can I register for next semester prior to the date associated with my class level?
No, WebAdvisor scheduling will be done BY CLASS LEVEL according to the number of credits students have earned up to this point in time. You are currently a sophomore.
I'm considering an internship. How do I do that?
Start by contacting College to Career Center. Remember that CED 205, Intro. to Field Experience, is a prerequisite for an internship experience.
I'm graduating in May. Is there anything that I should be doing now? Am I taking all the classes required to graduate?
Once you're registered for Spring, the Registrar's Office will review your program evaluation to make sure everything is on track. You will receive an email with directions to complete the graduation application or if there are concerns that need to be addressed.
I'm interested in a selected topics course. Where is there additional information?
Click to see Selected Topic offerings.
My advisor mentioned doing a directed study or tutorial. How do I register for that?
Directed Study and Tutorial forms are available at the Registrar's Office. Students must complete the appropriate form and submit it to the Registrar's Office. Advisors cannot schedule these courses through WebAdvisor.
My advisor mentioned I need a course substitution. What do I do?
First decide if the substitution is in the Doane Core or major/minor. If the substitution is in the Doane Core there is a form to complete that also explains the required steps. If the substitution is in your major/minor, send an email to your advisor explaining the substitution. Upon your advisors approval they will forward it to the appropriate Division Chair, who will review it for approval, and then forward it to the Registrar to be posted on your academic record.
What happens if I forget to register?
Students who do not schedule their courses during the registration period, will be contacted by a member of the retention committee.
What if I register for less than 12 hours?
The business office will bill you as a part-time student. Estimated bills will reflect your early registration hours and Financial Aid Award letters will be issued based on the registered hours.
