Student Accident Insurance

Accident Insurance Summary for 2022-23 Academic Year

Doane requires all students to carry primary insurance while enrolled. There are instances, however, when primary insurance does not cover accidents, i.e. out-of-network circumstances. Late this spring Doane capitalized on an opportunity to provide excellent secondary accident insurance coverage to all Doane students (athletes and non-athletes alike) for a nominal fee. (See PDF)

This secondary coverage enables students to make prudent decisions about care relating to an accident rather than declining care due to a concern about high deductible or significant coinsurance related to the care (Examples may include declining an MRI due to expense). All students will be included in the plan regardless of other insurance.

The cost of this coverage is $55 per semester and is covered within the per semester student fees each student is assessed. The plan covers intramural, club and intercollegiate athletics injuries as well as slips, trips, and falls. As a result, should an accident occur, a student will not be exposed to significant out-of-pocket medical expenses.

Other Key features include:

1.       $5,000 of worldwide accident insurance and $35,000 of insurance for athletic injuries.

2.       There is a $1,000 deductible for Athletic injuries and NO deductible with the policy and 100% Usual & Customary coverage, which means students will not have any out-of-pocket expenses for co-pays or deductibles for any accidental injuries sustained on or off campus, up to the $5,000 medical benefit for nonathletic injuries and $35,000 for athletic related injuries.

3.       Coverage is annual (08/01/22 - 07/31/23) and includes all accidents a covered student may be involved in, regardless of location.

4.       Inclusive coverage - Allows for pre-existing conditions, HMO/PPO denial, heart & circulatory, and expanded medical

*As required by law, students must demonstrate primary insurance. However, in the event a student's primary insurance does not cover an injury due to out-of-network circumstances or other situations, this insurance will act as the primary insurance.
