Student 1098-T Tax Forms
Doane University will make available by January 31st the 1098-T Form to all students, as required by Federal Regulations, who were enrolled at the University and have reportable payments during the previous calendar year. Regulations do not require generation of forms for non-degree courses (example OLA courses) or Students with a Non-Resident Alien status.
Depending on your income (or your family’s income, if you are a dependent), whether you were considered full or half-time enrolled, and the amount of your qualified educational expenses for the year, you may be eligible for a federal education tax credit. (You can find detailed information about claiming education tax credits in IRS Publication 970.) The dollar amounts reported on your Form 1098-T may assist you in completing IRS Form 8863 – the form used for calculating the education tax credits that a taxpayer may claim as part of your tax return. Doane University is unable to provide you with individual tax advice, but should you have questions, you should seek the counsel of an informed tax preparer or advisor.
Once the University has generated the 1098-T statements, students will receive an email notifying them the form is available on Self Service. As required by FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act), Doane University cannot provide this information directly to parents, other persons who may claim the student as a dependent, or tax preparers.
1098-T forms will be mailed to the student's permanent address by January 31st to assist with tax preparation. The University will report Form 1098-T with the Internal Revenue Service.
