Do you have an interest in the environment? Do you enjoy being involved in outdoor activities? Do you have an interest in wildlife and wild places?
Then membership in the Doane University Wildlife and Conservation Organization (W.A.C.O.) is for you!
Activities include camping and canoeing on the Niobrara River and camping at the Lewis and Clark Recreation Area. Day trips have included observing the hawk and eagle migration and Hitchcock Nature Center and wildlife at the DeSoto Wildlife Refuge. We have also assisted in enlarging the University's disc golf course. We also work to conserve our tiger mascot in the wild through our involvement in the Tigers for Tigers Coalition and the World Wildlife Fund. Recently we have set up an aquarium in Lied Science Building for all students and faculty to enjoy.
W.A.C.O. is involved in activities including habitat conservation, outdoor events, and climate change initiatives. We encourage a better understanding of wildlife, conservation, and environmental issue affecting society and the world today.
