An introductory biology course online. Students will become familiar with the nature of science and the ways in which scientific tools are used to investigate living systems. Students will understand the basic structure and function of cells as organisms and as part of multicellular organisms. Students will become familiar with the history of genetics, and understand how cells reproduce and how information is transmitted from one generation to the next. Each module will be accompanied with an online laboratory.

Course Includes

Labs fall into three categories: at-home labs, laboratory kits and virtual labs. At-home labs use commonly found household items or things that can easily be purchased and come with a set of instructions on how to complete the lab. Laboratory kits are used in this course and are very similar to at home-labs - items and directions required to complete the lab are sent directly to you via the purchase of a lab kit. Virtual labs are also used in this course and use designed simulations which walk you through any experiment and will ask you lab-related questions. Hands-on labs may require a video of you performing the lab and/or a completed lab report.
