Description
The NE Eagle Scout Scholarship is established through the generosity of the late Walter Scott, Jr., an Eagle Scout who became a tremendous businessman, leader, and philanthropist. Mr. Scott credited his Scouting experience as being foundational to his character development and leadership success.
Eligibility
All Eagle Scouts living in Nebraska or in Pottawattamie, Mills, or Harrison counties in Iowa who graduate from high school in the spring of 2025 are eligible for the scholarship. They may use the scholarship funds at any eligible Nebraska college or university.
Renewability & Repayment
The scholarship will be renewed annually, provided students remain in good standing with their school and are enrolled as full-time students.
Scholarship Process
The NE Eagle Scout Scholarship for the 2025 cohort will be administered by listing each NE Eagle Scout Scholarship recipient as the beneficiary of a NEST 529 College Savings Plan owned by the Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation. Students may use their funds to pay for qualified higher education expenses such as tuition and fees, room and board, books, supplies, and equipment. To access their funds, students will submit requests for disbursement to the Suzanne & Walter Scott Foundation. NEST 529 plans opened by the Foundation for the NE Eagle Scout Scholarship will be separate from any other 529 college savings accounts a student may be the beneficiary of or own.
