Federal Pell Grant

Grants are awarded based on financial need and do not need to be repaid.

Awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need.

Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students, who have not already earned a bachelor’s degree, with exceptional financial need. To determine your need level, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 

2 full-time semesters or 4 full-time terms per academic year

Undergraduate students in the School of Graduate and Professional Studies receive grants for 4 full-time terms per academic year. Additional terms required to complete a degree are not covered under federal grants.

Note:  If you are eligible for a Pell Grant, and your parent or guardian was a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, and died as a result of military service in Iraq or Afghanistan on or after September 11, 2001, you will receive the maximum Pell Grant for the year. Other conditions must apply, as well as confirmation from the U.S. Department of Defense.

Grants are awarded based on financial need and do not need to be repaid. The amount a student is eligible for is determined by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) generated from the FAFSA. The amount awarded is dependent on 1) financial need; 2) enrollment status; 3) and if attending a full academic year at Doane.

All federal grants are credited to the student's account after census day. Generally, they are applied equally over each term of enrollment, depending upon enrollment status and eligibility. 

Grants are first applied to:

• tuition
• fees
• room and board (if living on campus)

And then:

• books
• supplies

If a credit remains, the student may use the grant funds to pay for other educational expenses.
