Doane Community,
On Thursday, August 20, President Carter announced a temporary suspension of extracurricular activities on the Crete campus through August 31, 2020. At the time, while university leadership was encouraged with the compliance around health and wellness protocols on our campuses, there was an increase in residential students on the Crete campus who were exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, had a high level of exposure to those who are symptomatic, or tested positive for COVID-19.
After a week to monitor the situation, university leadership feels comfortable with the current status on the Crete campus. While there are currently four positive cases of COVID-19 on the Crete campus, all of the individuals who tested positive were able to safely return home. Additionally, our quarantine/isolation space for residential students is currently at a very low occupancy, a significant decrease from this time last week.
Consulting members from the Health and Wellness Advisory group, President Carter has made the decision to lift the temporary suspension of activities. All extracurricular activities, including athletics, will be able to resume their practices and events beginning Saturday, August 29.
Thank you for continuing to follow our protocols on campus in order to ensure our students, faculty, and staff can live, work, and learn in a safe environment.
