Professional Bio:

Jovany Chavez is a dedicated professional in higher education with a strong background in student support and academic transition. He earned his Associate degree from Iowa Western Community College and his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. With experience at alternative schools and various TRIO programs, Jovany currently serves as the Academic Engagement and Retention Coordinator. In this role, he organizes events and provides academic guidance to students, including assistance with FAFSA applications. His passion for empowering students and facilitating their academic journeys drives his commitment to creating a supportive educational environment. Jovany is also pursuing a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Colorado Boulder, aiming to further enhance his ability to contribute to student success.

Personal Background: Jovany Chavez grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, specifically in South Omaha, which has greatly influenced his love for community and culture. One of his favorite hobbies is collecting old Spanish books, as he finds joy in exploring the rich histories and stories within them. He also has a deep appreciation for Mexican American literature, which resonates with his own experiences and perspectives. Currently, he’s focused on completing his Master’s degree program, and it’s an adventure that fuels his passion for learning and personal growth. Outside of his academic pursuits, he enjoys connecting with others and sharing stories that highlight their diverse backgrounds.
