Primary Campus: Crete
Credentials: BS, MS, PHD

Courses Taught: Introductory Physics, Modern Physics, Electricity & Magnetism, Heat & Thermodynamics, Mathematical Methods for Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Physical Science (for non-majors), Liberal Arts Seminar
Research Interests: I am doing research on biofilm systems, where microorganisms grow attached to a surface. My students and I are performing experimental studies on the growth kinetics of organisms in these systems using a variety bioreactors, the morphological properties of the films as they develop, and surface properties that inhibit biofilm growth. We are also developing theoretical models of biofilm growth using computer simulations. Computational Physics Web Site

Student Research Projects: Recent student projects I have assisted with include
  • Developing image processing algorithms and code for measuring the velocity field of plant root cells from microscope images
  • Developing computer simulations of biofilm growth for Pseudomonas aeruginosa with glucose substrate
  • Monte Carlo simulation of lattice gas diffusion in a comb structure
  • Monte Carlo simulation of lattice gas diffusion in an energetically layered structure
  • Monte Carlo simulation of lattice gas diffusion in a box fractal
  • Mechanics of track and field events
  • Physics of basketball
  • Acoustical analysis of the Bodhran Drum
  • Sound spectrum analysis of brass and wind instruments
