Andrew Feyes is honored to serve Doane University as the Director of Instrumental Music. In this capacity he leads the Doane Concert Band and Tiger Pep Band while instructing courses in conducting, instrumental methods, and applied trumpet. Dr. Feyes holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Bowling Green State University, and both a Masters of Music in Wind Band Conducting and a Ph.D. in Music Education from Kansas State University. While under his direction, the Doane Concert Band was selected to perform at the 2023 Nebraska Music Education Association’s annual conference and provided a clinic performance entitled, “Significant Repertoire for Young Bands” at the 2024 Nebraska Bandmasters Association annual conference. Feyes was honored to be named the 2022-23 Doane University Student Council Faculty Member of the Year, and is currently serving a three year term on the Board of Directors for the Nebraska Music Education Association as the Director of Collegiate/University Affairs. Andrew also holds the position of President-Elect of the Alpha Theta chapter of Phi Beta Mu, an international bandmasters fraternity.
Prior to his role at Doane University, Feyes served the University of Akron as Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands. While at Akron he led the 250 member University of Akron Marching Band, Blue and Gold Brass Basketball Pep Band, Symphony Band, and instructed courses in conducting and marching band techniques. Ensembles under his direction performed at the 2015 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and 2017 Boca Raton Bowl as well as the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in Portland, OR.
As a conductor and trumpeter, Feyes has performed in Greece, New Zealand, Australia, and France, as well as at state and national conferences. He has presented clinics on score study, first-year teaching strategies, ensemble listening skills, composition techniques in large ensembles, and marching band techniques at various state Music Education and Bandmaster Associations annual conferences. Dr. Feyes also presented a clinic on American music assessment trends at the 3rd International Symposium on Assessment in Music Education in Bremen, Germany. Feyes is in demand throughout the Midwest as an adjudicator and clinician for both marching and concert bands. Andrew is married to Kelsey Feyes, a Special Educator in Crete Public Schools, and together they have two wonderful daughters, Clara (11) and Alexandra (9).
