Professional Bio:
An alum from 2015, Alexis Lipson serves as the Community Director Smith Residential Hall at Doane University where she supports first year students as they begin their college careers. Alexis is able to work closely with her team of Community Advisors to create an inclusive and empowering community within Smith Hall. In addition to her role as a Community Director, Alexis serves as one of the advisors to Tau Sigma Zeta Fraternity.
Before returning to Doane in 2023, Alexis strengthened her skills in youth development and advocacy through a variety of opportunities both stateside and abroad. Alexis dipped her toes into the field of informal education as an AmeriCorps volunteer at Lincoln North Star High School, then dove head first as a Youth Development Specialist through Peace Corps Ukraine. During her two years in Ukraine, Alexis had the opportunity to work with Ukrainians both in her home site and across the country to build out clubs, camps, and youth organizations. One of her proudest achievements as a Peace Corps Volunteer was collaborating with fellow volunteers and Ukrainian university students on a Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence training during which participants were trained on healthy relationships and trauma informed care.
Alexis returned to the states in 2020 and worked for three years as a School Community Coordinator with the Lincoln Public Schools Community Learning Centers. In the fall of 2023, Alexis couldn’t turn down the opportunity to return to Doane and give a little bit back to the community that gave so much to her.
Outside of work, Alexis is doing one or more of the following things:
- Running or riding her Peloton
- Walking her Dalmatian, Sugarfoot
- Playing The Sims
- Obsessing over her two “Peace Corps Pets,” Maxie & Mara, that came back home with her from Ukraine
